June Hebgan Lake Montana
To help you understand what your fish want to eat take a look at Trout Nut. This site is really helpful for fly fishing anglers who are interested in knowing more about what the secrets of the river hold.
Fly fishing demands imitation of the look and behavior of the insects trout eat. This section holds 3711 close-up pictures of 748 flies and other trout foods, along with detailed hatching behavior and, soon, identification keys. See today's Specimen of the Day:

Salmon Flies?
If it's salmon flies you seek look to Idaho in the Box Canyon. Our wet and cold weather will have this favorite bug of fly fishing anglers behind schedule. Look to the lower Madison below grey cliff. Your sure to contend with high water and poor visibility but you may see one. Next month should be getting good for this hatch on the upper Madison as will the people hatch too. Avoiding the hatch can be a good call...

June is awesome in Montana as summer is right around the corner. All though it was snowing in Big Sky today, this is a great time to miss the crowds and see some spectacular viewing of new born wildlife in Yellowstone. See the snow capped peaks in the back ground of Flathead Lake while hooking up large lake trout. Fly fish areas on the Madison and Missouri that are unaccessible by most stream side anglers do to high water. See details and lots more, don't forget to give us your input.... Hope to see you soon!

Morel Hunting in Montana
Spring hiking can give good rewards. It's Morel season and its good rewards. This tasty treat is an awesome find as it's only out for a short time in the spring. Cottonwoods, burns, moist weather, and timing are key ingredients for a successful hunt. Hunt responsibly and have fun with your friends and family. Bon'Apite'

Montana's Spring Water Levels
Kerr Dam 40,300cfs Flathead River Montana June 2011
This spring is setting record water levels in many parts of the state, while many rivers around Southwest Montana are at a good average. The smith River has been temporarily closed to floaters this year do to the dangerous high water and the Musselshell has been at flood stage well out of its banks for some time now, many homes and businesses have been lost. Central Montana is flooded and is expecting more water to come. Southwestern Montana is coming off slow as we have had much cold weather, but we will see it start to rage as the snow pack is still at record levels and weather is warming. Fishing is real good if you go to the right place and use the right tricks. High water can give you the advantage with the right guide. Look for our peak water to hit around the middle of this month. And expect water levels to stay high through out July. Hebgan Dam "Between the Lakes" Flowing here at 2240cfsand fishing great! Upper Madison River Montana June 2011 |
