To help you understand what your fish want to eat take a look at Trout Nut. This site is really helpful for fly fishing anglers who are interested in knowing more about what the secrets of the river hold.

Fly fishing demands imitation of the look and behavior of the insects trout eat. This section holds 3711 close-up pictures of 748 flies and other trout foods, along with detailed hatching behavior and, soon, identification keys. See today's Specimen of the Day:

It's been a long winter here in Montana, but spring is knockin' on our door. The snow keeps coming even though signs of spring are here. The fly fishing is stacking up with lots of buck rainbows concentrating in many of our famous waters, some great bills are making their way through congress, and the antlers are hitting the ground. I-161 predictions are holding true as non-resident combo licenses will continue to sell. For the unsuccessful deer license applicants you can up grade the license and your hunt to still get you here. See details and lots more, don't forget to give us your input.... Hope to see you soon!

Bills Need Your Help To Make It To The Finish Line

Paul Ellis

Coalition for the Responsible Management of Fish & Wildlife 1-406-581-2717

We are asking you to join the effort to get this system back on track and working for the people of Montana.  The CRMFW enjoys a broad base of support.  We want to invite you to join us in this important work.  Let's get back to biologically based management and look to sustain and extend hunting opportunity.  Let's look to encourage landowners to open gates with incentives rather than the heavy handed punitive actions demonstrated by the FWP.

If you are a Montana sportsmen, landowner, business owner, outfitter or you represent a trade association negatively affected by the unnecessary use of limited entry permits then you need to bring your voice and financial support to this cause.

We look forward to your joining us!

Antler

Antler Hunting in Montana

Spring hiking can give good rewards whether you are in search of the legend set or finding your first bone. With snow still falling the shed hunting should give hunters a challenging search for a score. Be responsible in your quest, try to avoid pushing the elk and avoid hiking in bedding zones. Stay off the closed wintering areas giving the elk the refuge they seek. Hunt responsibly and have fun with your friends and family.

Non-Resident Drawing Results Out

About 15,800 nonresidents applied for a total 17,000 big game or elk combination licenses for the upcoming season. That means that every hunter who applied for either the $912 nonresident big game combination license, or the $812 elk combo license, will receive one.
Meanwhile, more than 7,550 Montana's nonresidents applied for 4,600 combination deer licenses, which also saw a bump in price to $542 for the upcoming season. Because only 4,600 deer combo licenses are available by Montana law, those licenses will be awarded via a lottery-like drawing set for April 11.
The remaining 1,200 nonresident big game combination licenses will be sold online only on a first-come first-served basis beginning April 18. The big game combo includes licenses to hunt elk, deer and upland game birds, and a season fishing license. The elk combo includes all of the same licenses except for deer.

Nonresident hunters who wish to apply for one of the remaining big game combo or elk licenses must apply via the FWP website at www.fwp.mt.gov  beginning April 18.

It's crazy to see the rhetoric and ways supporters of the wolf work. Over 10 major groups filed law suits to keep these killers on the ESA. I do have faith and confidence that we will get this issue in check

and manage our wild life responsibly. For now check out
